Gramin Dak Sevak Work, Job Description
- GDS BPM – Branch Post Master
- GDS MD – Mail Deliverer
- GDS MC – Mail Carrier
- GDS Packer
BPM Post – Gramin Dak Sevak Work
- BPM – Branch Post Master
- Every village gram panchayat will have a branch of Post Office called as the Gramin Dak Seva.
- The job of BPM or Branch Post Master will have to administer the working of the respective branch of Gramin Dak.
- If the Gram Panchayat consists of more than 1 village, then you will have to lead the MD, MC, and Packers that will be appointed there.
- You have to make sure that you open maximum number of accounts in your branch.
- Wit the help of the MD, you will have to promote Government Schemes like Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, etc. and P.L.I. or Postal Life Insurance Policies.
- The BPM will also book register posts, speed posts, MO’s (Money Orders), parcels etc.
- Basically, you will be heading the Branch.
MD Post – Gramin Dak Sevak Work
- MD – Mail Deliverer
- The job profile of the Mail Deliver or GDS MD is to assist the BPM or Branch Post Master.
- You will be given targets to complete.
- You will have to persuade and help villagers regarding opening of Savings Accounts in your branch.
- As MD comes under MTS i.e. Multi Tasking Staff, MD will also have to collect Mail from the Head Office/Sub Office and Deliver it to your respective Branch.
- If the MC is on leave, the Mail Deliverer will also have to Deliver the mail in the village.
MC Post – Gramin Dak Sevak Work
- MC – Mail Carrier
- As the name suggests, the job of Mail Carrier is to carry the mail from the branch and deliver it within the village.
- Though it may seem like a Post-Man, as MC’s come under MTS, i.e. Multi Tasking Staff, they will have to assist the BPM and MD is the smooth functioning of their Branch.
Packer – Gramin Dak Sevak Work
- The work of GDS Packer is to perform variety of functions.
- You will have to open the mail bag that will reach the Branch every morning.
- You will have to sort the mail according to their preference.
- You will also have to pack the mails that needs to sent to other places in mail bags, for the mail van to come and collect it every evening.
- You will also have to assist the BPM, MD & MC in their jobs.
Gramin Dak Sevak – Salary & Promotion

- The minimum wage has been increased to Rs. 10000/- per month and maximum to Rs.35, 480/- per month.
- This Salary Structure is subject to increase.
